RICHARD CHIU
Richard was born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He is of Chinese decent with an eighth of Dutch in his blood. He was raised by his parents, an engineer(father) and accountant (mother).
Richard grew up excelling in the arts. He first began playing guitar at the age of 6. Then, spending years learning the art of songwriting and production. He apprenticed with an Austrian composer, Thomas Schobel for 4 years, learning the art of film scoring, multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, drums, piano, harmonica, etc.) and producing. He also played in and produced many bands. Among the projects Richard worked on were of David Bowie remixes, Setting Sun, NBC, FOX Sports, and more. After having some success in music for over 10 years, he was ready for something new. And that's where acting came in.
While going through doldrums, Richard got a job at Trader Joe's. He was approached by an agent and told him he's got that look. She brought him in and from there Richard fell in love with acting. Not long after he was signed, Richard immediately booked in two episodes of Young & the Restless. Right after that, he booked 4 national commercials, a supporting role in a movie, and many others. And that was his first 6 months. Richard continued to book roles on Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack & Cody, The Wizards of Waverly Place, and the pilot, The Living Sword, which showed at Comicon (and currently being optioned as a feature film).
Richard was wanting more of the film and TV industry. Because creativity and producing came naturally from Richard (with lots of experience in music producing), Richard took courses in writing and producing and is now have immersed himself into being an actor/producer.
Currently, he is in post production for a 5 episode web series that he created and called I AM ASIAN, HOW ARE YOU?, which will be out Oct. 2009 (the project has created a lot of buzz with investors and executive producers looking to fund it). Alongside, is a pilot he co-produced, "KEEP DREAMING," that was screened at the Independent Television Festival (www.itvfest.org).
Aside from the arts, Richard is seriously interested in business/marketing, philosophy and psychology. Studying people is one of his joys -- to observe and learn about the human psyche and how people work.
Richard lives with the mantra: Live life with honesty, love, and communication.
